Bravestorm 8

This list I've been teching around since Convergence came around in Brazil (later than the rest of the world, as usual) feeling the need to have some deck that was able to cripple the ramp and support decks with all their Vader's Fist and Megablaster Troopers but also could easily kill decks 3-Wide. I've seen beforehand the power of Leia Organa - Boushh paired up woth Yoda - Wizened Master and tried to replicate bringing the powerful focus sides and ability of Padmé Amidala - Resolute Senator. At the Regional on Recife/BR I expected to find support decks all around and was worried when I've seen that the 25 players, 5 were Captain Phasma - Stormtrooper Commander decks, my nemesis on most of my training and two more decks like mine. Here are how my matches played out.

Match 01 - BYE I had a BYE from a previous Store Championship

Match 02 - ePhasma/Messenger - W On the first match I was paired with this monstrous deck and had to find my way out to victory going all in on specials and indirect, didn't pay much attention to mitigation since I would take damage anyways via Retribution. Leia died and the end of round two but did her job as only Phasma remained with 1HP at the start of round 3. Activated Padme with Instigate and got the last needed damage.

Match 03 - ePhasma/Messenger - L After the first match I was more confident in taking the Phasmas down but on this match my rolls didn't help at first and I was too cautious on rerolling and didn't get the damage fast enough. There was a pretty interesting Aggressive Negotiations play that caused 6 damage to my opponent but Padme was alone at this point and couldn't keep up.

Match 04 - eLor/eSatine/Gungan Warrior - W Finally a support deck, I haven't played against this line up yet but was familiar with the flow of the game, deny the money and exploit Leia's specials. I laid a Moxie early and the combos with Underhanded Tactics were lethal. Leia did die this match due to the mighty 06 damage of the Shadow Caster but I stole the Battlefield at the right moment when the Padmé Amidala's Royal Starship arrived denying some mitigation cards from my opponent and closed the game.

Match 05 - eWatt/Wat/Talzin - W Another match that my deck was ready for and against a player from my city (Luan) that we have played before, as expected my deck had not much trouble taking down the characters and negating the money for those big ass supports.

Match 06 - ePhasma/Messenger - L Again against a Phasma piloted by a friend of mine, the elite player eJoyce, the was 5-0 and I was not confident at all on taking that down the red monster. I did the best I could but the damage output was to great for me to control and, even alone and damaged, Phasma took the win. I've finished 4-2 but only lost to people above me on the ladder and got the Top8.

Top 08 - eWatt/Wat/Talzin - W (2-0) Against Luan again and this time the Moxie had no respect for the opponent, the first round he controlled me at first and negated my damage masterfully, mut after the Moxie was down a quick strike with Impulsive on Padme's focus and 06 damages across the board closed the deal. Same happened on round 2 and I made my way to the Top 04.

Top 04 - ePhasma/Messenger - W (2-0) The Elite player who was unstoppable was my next task and a very hard one, to get the with here I changed my playstyle to the way I've done on the first match of the Regional against Abelardo's Phasma, full agro. My dice helped my a lot and a risky Flee the Scene followed by weak rerolls from my opponent made me get the first round. On the second round I was able to focus my damage on Phasma with the help on my supports and closed the game to unexpected final, a mirror match.

Final - ePadme/eLeia - L At the end the only match I haven't prepared at all, a mirror one. Our decks had a great deal of differences but it was all about attention and endurance since it was a long day with many matches for both of us. The first round I got really nervous with everybody watching and did some rookie mistakes even tough I know the opponents deck and it cost me the round. The second one I tried to focus more and got some of my supports and villain upgrades early on, I was more aware of my previous mistakes and could end woth the win, 1-1. The last match was tense and decided on details (and a brilliant Bravado play), I think I've spent all my focus on the second round and could not get the win in the end. Kudos for the champion and for the deck that sealed the First and Second place.

After the long day, I was happy as it can be, I made the finals against a sea of Phasmas and went home with more that I could have hoped for. Despite the FFG preference for Villains, this tournament made me see that there is a 'spark of hope' for heroes in the end.
