This is a pretty basic Price of Failure Vader/Guard with a bit of a twist to help stave off the likes of Poe/Maz & 9s. It runs light on upgrades with a hard focus on affordable melee.. only a few cheap abilities, but still running Holocron because it's 0 cost and it has a resource and focus that can be just as helpful as the special. You're doing all the things a Price of Failure deck wants to do and shooting for big melee damage rolls. The twist to this deck is Close Quarters Assault. 0 cost for the ability to often discard 2-4 cards from an opponent's hand is amazing. This is often a game changer when playing decks that are depending on high cost & heavy hitting upgrades or supports... Poe/Maz, 9s, etc. It's also very dependable considering the amount of melee sides available. *Think Force Speed special for 2 actions into something like rerolling as your 1st action into 3-4 melee sides showing to play CQA as your 2nd action, eliminating an entire hand. You've left them with no way to reroll and possibly mitigated something like Thermal/Falcon/Rocket Launcher damage plus their ability to mitigate your damage that's still showing. And that's the gist of it. This deck also performs well against just about any Kylo deck. With the amount of 0 & 1 cost cards, Kylo's special is mostly useless.

It's definitely debatable. I was running holocrons with things like force lightning before stripping down upgrades to focus on speed and melee. I decided to leave it in for money, focus, and the occasional special to actually get something out for free or on my guard if Vader goes down. I had removed them at one point for an extra boundless and overconfidence. I made the switch back because it didn't feel like it was running as smoothly or generating that occasional extra resource. Beginning a turn with an extra resource is important in this deck. Playing a 2 cost(preferably Vibroknife) on Vader and having that one extra for lightsaber throw, etc. really propels it. |
Nice list! Was wondering, what did you play against en route to the Top 16? What were your strong matchups and your weak ones? |
Nice list. I noticed you use moisture farm over secluded beach. Have you found this to be more optimal or more to your play style? |

is holocron worth it here?
