Epic Force 7

This is essentially a Shadowcaster reset deck. I feel like Shadowcaster might be the best use of ruthless tactics to date. You should be able to easily play Shadowcaster on round 1 with all of the resource generating cards and Beckett's power action. You ideally want a 1 cost mod in your opening hand so that when you play the Shadowcaster, you make 4 of it's sides resolvable without having any resources. A force speed in your opening hand is great too along with at least 1 resource generating card and a zero cost removal card, ideally. Put back flames of the past, mind trick, stifle, and ruthless tactics, as you do not want those cards in your opening hand. Most people are going to try to burn down Ciena because of her power action. Luce is typically the final target, which makes cards like overconfidence/mind trick/ and force speed decent includes in the deck. Once the Shadowcaster is loaded up, you're looking to get to the 6 ranged side and use ruthless tactics for 9 damage for free. Hopefully you can use some combination of force speed, targeting astromech, or triple laser turret to keep the die protected to be able to resolve it. If Ciena is still alive, getting enough resources should be a focus to help you get to resetting the shadow caster with her power action.

Shadow Caster's ability is persistent, thus the cost doesn't add in to Ruthless Tactics. If you had 3 mods on it, Ruthless Tactics would be useless since none of the die sides would then have pay sides. Sorry to burst your bubble!

@Chi3f1n6 Are you sure about that, I know that the Shadow Caster decreases the resource cost on each side of the die by 1 for each mod on it, but Ruthless Tactics says that that you can resolve one of your dice, increasing it's value by the resource cost showing on it. Technically the die for Shadow Caster would still be showing a 3. It seems like you would actually be able to increase the damage by 3 and still pay 0 for the card and the bonus damage to the 6 side, making it 9.

Of course I'd like to see an official answer, but from the wording alone it does seem like he is right, one is a cost reduction, the other is a printed value.

Enjoy!

Chi3f is right though, the inherent ability of Shadow Caster does change what the die is, technically in regard to game terms, showing. Obviously this can not be physically represented on the die, but mechanics-wise, it is considered to not be showing resource costs when loaded up with mods.

If you feel you've got the resources, you could swap out Ruthless Tactics for Salvo, for a super aggro alternative.

And yes, I agree that Ruthless Tactics does not allow you to add 3 to 9 and pay nothing. There's been a number of other rulings where 'showing' can be changed by game mechanics. Shame Imperial War Machine is red only.

I agree that ruthless tactics works.

If in doubt, ask on the start ears destiny Facebook page, you'll get a response almost immediately, and I'm confident they'll say you cannot use ruthless tactics to add three to the six once you have at least one mod on. Of course if you had 2 mods on you could pay 1 to deal 7
